DrayTek P1280 VigorSwitch PoE+ 24 Port Gigabit Switch

The DrayTek P1280 VigorSwitch 24-Port Layer 2 Managed Gigabit PoE Switch is ideal for SOHO and small business with the high-performance capability and IPv6 management. To cater for high bandwidth traffic, it is equipped with 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports for the LAN side, and 4 combo UTP/SFP ports for the backbone side. VigorSwitch P1280 is equipped with extensive facilities for maximising your LAN performance, VLAN capability to allow flexible network design, and QoS capability for flexible bandwidth control. Furthermore, the power saving by IEEE802.3az EEE can offer you a green Ethernet networking environment. The VigorSwitch P1280 also offers power to all these ports with Power of Ethernet (PoE) capability. All PoE-enabled devices for the business usages, such as IP phones, wireless AP or IP Cameras can all rely on VigorSwitch P1280 switch for the power supply, you are free to position equipment wherever they should be, not being limited by the power outlet.

DrayTek P1280 Summary

  • 24 x 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 4x combo RJ45 and SFP ports.
  • PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) for IP phones, wireless access points, IP Cameras etc.
  • 802.3at PoE+ with 340W budget, with scheduleing providing power at right time.
  • Advanced QoS for application traffic prioritisation.
  • Port Mirroring & Link Aggregation.
  • IGMP Snooping/Querier (Up to 256 Multicast Groups).
  • Voice VLAN for easy VoIP devices setup and prioritise.
  • Support LLDP and SNMP for best management software compatibility.

Virtual Lan (VLAN)

VLAN provides a way for businesses to assign network functions to different workgroups, branches, sections, employees or visitors, according to their operational requirements. VigorSwitch P1280 offers the Layer 2 Isolation feature (tag-based) VLAN for the groups. The Voice VLAN function of VigorSwitch P1280 assigns a preset VLAN profile with appropriate level of QoS for VoIP traffic. This ensures that voice related traffic will not be delayed because of inappropriate priority treatment.

Quality of Service (QoS)

With DrayTek VigorSwitch P1280, the QoS feature provides eight internal queues to support eight different classifications of traffic. High priority packet streams experience less delay inside the switch, which supports lower latency for certain delay-sensitive traffic. The switch classifies the packet as one of the eight priorities according to 802.1p priority tag, DiffServ and/or DSCP based. The QoS operates at full wire speed.

Energy efficiency

The VigorSwitch P1 0 is fully compliant with IEEE802.3az which is an energy efficient Ethernet protocol. The Power saving using Power Management techniques to detect the client idle and cable length automatically and provides the different power. The latest application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), using lower-power technology, allow for lower power consumption and thinner, more efficient designs.

PoE for Efficient Installation

24-PoE ports allow power to be supplied to end devices, such as Wireless AP, IP Phones and IP cams, directly through the existing LAN cables, eliminating costs for additional AC wiring and reducing Installation Cost. It frees your wireless AP deployment from restriction due to power outlet location. PoE also comes with schedule feature to provide power in a timely manner, lowing your bill of electricity.

Bandwidth Aggregation

The Gigabit ports can be combined together to create a multi-link load-sharing trunk. Port trunks are useful for switch-to-switch cascading, providing very high full-duplex speeds.

Power over Ethernet Management

The VigorSwitch P1280 has a power budget for PoE of up to 340watts spread across RJ-45 ports 1 to 24, which allows for all ports to be used for PoE (dependent on each device’s power requirements). For example, if you were using our PoE-powered VigorAP 910c wireless access points, they typically use up to 12 watts, so well within the P1280’s budget if you had 24 of them connected. You can also set time schedules so that PoE devices are turned on/off at certain times of the day, saving power and preventing network access. With smart power management, drawing only as much power as needed together with 802.1az compliance. If a non-PoE device is connected, that port’s PoE power is turned off which also avoids any potential damage to non-compliant devices. Ports 25-28 can be used to link to routers / switches and do not provide PoE.

Enhanced Feature Set

The P1280’s specification is packed with advanced features to aid reliability and switching performance to your network and is ready for the next generation with both IPv4 and IPv6 support. The P1280 has 24 standard (RJ45/copper) Gigabit Ethernet Ports, all with PoE+ and four selectable ports (which can be set to either RJ-45 or SFP slots). Features for Quality of Service (QoS), VLANs and network/switch security provide additional flexibility.

PoE Devices

The VigorSwitch P1280 is a PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch, providing power to any PoE-enabled device, most commonly IP phones, wireless access points or IP cameras over the Ethernet cable. As well as removing the need for local (at the desk) power supplies, making for tidier installations, PoE ensures power efficiency, providing only the power needed, as well as allowing for time schedules for powering up/down and remote rebooting. Power is provided only when required. PoE also allows for installation of devices where there is no mains power (particularly useful for wireless access points). The P1280 supports both standard PoE (802.3af) and High-Power PoE (802.3at) devices.

Central Management

The DrayTek VigorSwitch P1280 can operate in standalone mode and be managed through its web interface or, if you need to manage and monitor the switch remotely, or have several DrayTek VigorSwitches to administer, you can centrally manage and monitor them either with:

  • A DrayTek router which supports switch management (connected directly to the switch) or
  • DrayTek’s VigorACS management platform

The DrayTek VigorSwitch P1280 has 4 Gigabit SFP module ports which can be used instead of the corresponding RJ-45 ports Nos. 25-28. SFP slots are typically used for fibre transceivers. In comparison to ‘copper’ (RJ-45) cables, using fibre for connectivity provides longer range and resilience from electrical interference. The SFP ports provides compatibility with your choice of SFP modules (not included) and therefore the most appropriate medium for your application. If you use the SFP slots, then the corresponding copper port is not active but the others remain available.

Managing a VigorSwitch through VigorACS

DrayTek’s VigorACS central management system provides a centralised way to manage and view the status of any DrayTek Vigor router, VigorAP access point and VigorSwitch connected to the VigorACS server. DrayTek VigorSwitch switches that support TR-069 management can be managed through DrayTek VigorACS 2 in the same way that a DrayTek Vigor router or VigorAP access point would be managed. Through VigorACS, you can view and manage; a single VigorSwitch, all switches on a site or all switches across an entire network spanning multiple sites in one place. DrayTek VigorSwitches connected to VigorACS connect directly to the VigorACS server to be managed, the router or network that they are connected to needs no additional configuration beyond the VigorSwitch having access to the Internet (or if your VigorACS server is located across a private WAN / VPN connection, access to that network).
