The S358BU33ERM 8-bay removable hard drive enclosure lets you access eight individual 2.5″ or 3.5″ hard drives simultaneously using a single eSATA or USB port.
For fast performance and efficient data transfers when connected through eSATA, the HDD enclosure supports full SATA III transfer speeds — up to 6 Gbps. For universal compatibility, the enclosure can be connected through USB 3.0 with transfer speeds up 5 Gbps plus support for UASP, which supports performance up to 70% faster than conventional USB 3.0 when paired with a UASP-enabled host controller to utilize the full potential of your SATA III hard drives. The HDD enclosure supports the fastest drive technologies including SATA III (6 Gbps), hybrid drives and solid state drives (SSD), helping save you time through optimized performance from your external storage devices.
To help protect your drives the HDD/SSD enclosure has a built-in fan that keeps your drives running at optimal temperatures. Plus, the metal drive trays ensure maximum heat dissipation. To ensure compatibility with your computer system, the drive enclosure is OS independent.
Please note that in order to access multiple drives, the enclosure requires that your host device supports port multiplier. For desktop computers without port multiplier capability, StarTech.com offers the 2 Port PCI Express eSATA Controller Card (PEXESATA2).
Improved Performance with UASP
UASP is supported in Windows 8, Mac OSX (10.8 or above), and Linux. In testing, UASP performs with a 70% faster read speed and 40% faster write speed over traditional USB 3.0 at peak performance.
At the same peak in testing UASP also shows an 80% reduction in required processor resources.
Testing results were obtained using an Intel Ivy Bridge system, a UASP-enabled StarTech.com Enclosure, and a SATA III solid state drive.
